Liberty Net: October 23, 2010

by Kevin Strom, WB4AIO

SINCE W1WCR could not be on the air at opening time — 10PM Saturday — as usual, N2IRJ became acting Net Control Station for the Liberty Net this week. The conversation was intense and the ideas expressed were sometimes at a level rarely rivaled even in the most free-thinking academies of the Western world. There were some solemn moments as the life and friendship of a late supporter of the net, Bob Glisch, were remembered.

Here are a just a few of the topics covered this time on amateur radio’s most exciting net:

• The mortgage crisis is really two crises in one — mortgage defaults and tax defaults. As more and more people are forced out of their homes, the remaining homeowners face increased demands for property taxes — and, when some can’t pay, the positive feedback cycle intensifies. (1 hour 38 minutes)

• Homeowners seldom riot and burn, but as more Americans become mere tenants, a larger number will feel they have nothing left to lose — and their anger is growing. (1 hour 42 minutes)

• Are the banks — who are setting up shadow corporations to buy tax liens — conspiring with the regime in Washington to turn us into propertyless sharecroppers on the land our forefathers pioneered? (1 hour 44 minutes)

• The Liberty Net lost a loyal friend when shortwave listener Bob Glisch of Wisconsin finally succumbed to cancer this week. Not only was he a warm friend, supportive of net activities for many years, but he was part of an ultimately successful local effort to oust a corrupt governor. Bob was studying for his ham ticket when he died. Even though he never had his own station, he spoke by telephone so often with net luminaries N2IRJ (through whose phone patch he spoke on the air), N2SAG, and W1WCR that he was a very familiar voice. Back in May he helped the net track down an intentional jammer. He will be missed. (1 hour 54 minutes)

• It seems that death so often comes just as a man or woman has begun to achieve a critical mass of maturity and knowledge. Then the life-cycle begins all over again with the young and inexperienced. The work of the Life Extension Foundation could greatly benefit the nation, as well as the individual, by fostering a vast increase of our people’s stock of wisdom. (1 hour 59 minutes)

• Are the powers that be determined to pay off the national debt at pennies on the dollar through inflation? If so, all holders of US bonds and recipients of Social Security will receive nothing but a pittance. (3 hours 20 minutes)

• Did George Bush allow us to be attacked on 9/11/2001 through incompetence — or complicity? Those are the only alternatives. (3 hours 22 minutes)

The Liberty Net — amateur radio’s longest-running discussion net — is on the air every Saturday night at 10PM Eastern Time on or around 3950 kHz (usually within 10 kHz) SSB.

Remember, thanks to N2SAG and N2IRJ and W1WCR, you can listen live — and chat live — via the Web whenever the Liberty Net is on the air. And, as always, you can download the net right here at https://3950.net and listen at your leisure.
