Liberty Net: November 27, 2010

THE CONTINUING ANNOYANCE of DRM transmissions from the BBC means that the weekly Saturday night Liberty Net is meeting a little higher up the band than usual, this week on 3969 kHz. But participants are getting used to the change, since check-ins were numerous despite ionospheric disturbances that made close-in stations fade at times.

Here’s an abbreviated list of the issues debated and discussed this time on amateur radio’s most venerable discussion net:

• A Spanish woman has now officially registered the Sun as her personal property. She claims that the international law which prohibits ownership of our home star by any government does not apply to individuals, and she will soon be charging all “Sun users” a fee, of which she will generously keep only 10 per cent. Liberty Net: November 20, 2010

RADIO CONDITIONS were unsettled this week, but N2IRJ’s superb low-noise receiving setup allowed excellent copy of almost all stations on the latest session of the Liberty Net, and there were a large number of new stations checking in as the word spreads about the most exciting net on amateur radio. Since the BBC’s DRM transmission has been wiping out the area around 3950 kHz (why can’t the broadcasters move to 90 meters and leave 75 meters alone?), the net has been favoring 3966 kHz.

Here’s a small sample of the issues discussed this time on amateur radio’s longest-running discussion net:

• We hear an amazing firsthand account of W8LDW’s recent experiences with “airport security” and the TSA, who are criminally violating our constitutional rights with their so-called “enhanced security” procedures. These blue-shirted, gold-badged bureaucrats treat Americans as “animals to be contained and caged and poked and prodded and irradiated.” (25 minutes)

THE IONOSPHERE is still acting strangely as we transition into Winter conditions, but the sharing of brilliant insights and suppressed news continued at a high pace on this week’s Liberty Net. The DRM digital audio transmissions from Britain on 3955 — which effectively wipe out 3949 to 3964 kHz for hours — continue, so the net used a frequency a bit outside of its normal range this time: 3966 kHz.

Here’s a sample of the ideas brought forth this time on amateur radio’s longest-running discussion net:

• As countries (like the US and China) race to devalue their own currencies to gain a temporary trade advantage, bankers rake in profits from the easy money (that they create) and, as always, individuals and families find their wealth evaporating. (29 minutes)

• The insanely punitive estate tax that Washington is about to impose is causing many productive and intelligent people to simply leave the country — and who can blame them? No one wants his life’s work to feed the illegal regime in Washington and all its genocidal programs. (36 minutes)

SUNSPOTS ARE UP, but our hemisphere gets less and less exposure to them as Winter approaches, making for some strange propagation, with the 75 meter skip going long, then short, and then long again. Some of the stronger Liberty Net regulars were down in strength this week, while a few of the western stations came in much better than usual. The ideas were as varied as the signal strengths, as listeners heard reports from as far afield as Havana and China as well as from a Rand Paul victory celebration in Kentucky.

Liberty Net: October 30, 2010

THE DEBATE on this week’s Liberty Net was far more exciting than any sports contest or drama you could see on television, and the novel ideas exploded from all directions and illuminated the ionosphere — and our minds — in three dimensions. There was a small amount of rather pathetic jamming, and it looks like some of the noise the net encountered was from a Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM) broadcast transmission from Europe. Net communications weren’t impaired for long, however. (It would be an improvement if European broadcasters went to 90 meters and left 75 meters to amateurs.)

Here’s a minuscule sample of what you can hear on this week’s recording:

• A wise man once said “When Congress is adjourned, the nation is safe.” (40 minutes)

• If there’s a worldwide economic slump, why is German unemployment at a 30-year low? And Switzerland is doing even better. Could it be the higher genetic quality of those populations? (45 minutes)

SINCE W1WCR could not be on the air at opening time — 10PM Saturday — as usual, N2IRJ became acting Net Control Station for the Liberty Net this week. The conversation was intense and the ideas expressed were sometimes at a level rarely rivaled even in the most free-thinking academies of the Western world. There were some solemn moments as the life and friendship of a late supporter of the net, Bob Glisch, were remembered.

Liberty Net: October 16, 2010

THE LIBERTY NET is a gathering of thoughtful, philosophical minds and well-informed sources every week, and this time was no exception — and noise was so low that even the weakest signals were perfectly understandable. Warm up your radios every Saturday night and join in the discussion on or near 3950 kHz SSB at 10PM Eastern Time.

Here are some examples of the real free speech and free thought the Liberty Net is famous for:

• Now that US taxpayers are paying millions to bring Hamas refugees here, maybe it’s time to rethink our immigration and foreign policies. By angering — and then importing — Muslims, we are essentially jamming a stick into a beehive, and then gathering the angry bees and bringing them into our homes. (56 minutes)

LOW STATIC LEVELS and rising sunspot numbers created a 75 meter band that was a real pleasure to listen to during this week’s Liberty Net, and the free flow of uncensored ideas and information was an excellent stimulant for those still capable of independent thought.

SHORTWAVE RADIO PROPAGATION went very long during this week’s Liberty Net, despite the higher sunspot numbers, but noise was extremely low and almost all stations, even the low power ones, were heard clearly. Remember, if you can’t listen to the Liberty Net on or near 3950 kHz on Saturday nights at 10PM Eastern time, you can listen any time right here on https://3950.net.  You can even download the file for listening on your personal mp3 player.

THE IONOSPHERE was reflecting signals so beautifully during the Liberty Net this week that many of the stations on 75 meters sounded like locals on 2 meters, which made for an effortless exchange of the hard-to-find information and insights that make the net famous.

[wpaudio url=”https://3950.net/recordings/LIBERTY%20NET%20%20%202010%20September%2025th,%20Saturday%20%20%205h%2037m%2000s%20%20%20Source%20%20N2IRJ.mp3″ text=”Listen: 9/25 Liberty Net”]

Here’s a tiny selection of the topics discussed this week on amateur radio’s longest-running discussion net, on the air since 1974:

• Why is it so difficult for people of European descent to become American citizens these days — a process that can take years or decades when it is even allowed to happen  — when, according to the founding fathers, they should be the only ones allowed to become citizens at all? (10 minutes)
